This was an extensive refurbishment project that entailed major re-configuration of the interior spaces. In response to the client's brief to re-position the hotel as a boutique hotel, the interior design of the 22-storey hotel was extensively reworked. First completed in 1996, the building was occupied by the hotel that had 280 rooms, a main tenant and some smaller commercial tenancies.
Opening up and re-organizing the interior spaces brought in more natural light and improved visual connectivity between the levels. The existing spiral staircase connecting the lobby lounge at street level to the check in level on the upper floor has been retained for its sculptural impact. Raising from the confine of a reflective pool its twisting form is a liberating statement indeed.
Elsewhere the language of the design theme and application of the chosen materials described were implemented in all the food and beverage outlets thus unifying and blurring the edges of the public amenities. On the thirteenth floor, a sky lounge was created to provide a semi-private area accessible to hotel guests only. Meeting facilities were also incorporated to extend the usage of the lounge. The lighting were selected and calibrated to provide a warmer ambience to the area.
