C’arch Architecture + Design
Our vision for the Guggenheim Helsinki is a museum that is egalitarian, open and generous. Located on the waterside of South Harbour, the new museum respects Helsinki's urban textures, scale and proportions without being audacious and contrived. Its open-nature touches the ground lightly and graciously welcomes visitors into its communal civic heart. A quiet elegance is achieved in its choice of materials, incorporating cutting-edge sustainable technology and a refined expression of its timber structure.
Guggenheim Helsinki is envisioned as a series of open shelves on timber trestles - a flexible and egaliterian space for either spontaneous encounters or art installations and events, which is displayed to the city. These spaces and art shelves leads one upwards, whilst its volumes discreetly reframe Helsinki's beautiful cityscapes and landmarks beyond, always locating the visitor in its context.
